Its is strongly recommended that the USM3m01 buoy data be directly acquired from the Department of Marine Science, University of Southern Mississippi and not indirectly through other sources as they might have been changed. Use_Constraints: Principle Investigators (Originators), University of Southern Mississippi Department of Marine Science, and the Grantors (See Data_Set_Credit) should be fully acknowledged in any publication in which any part of these data are used. Use of the data without completely reading and understanding of the metadata is not recommended. The Department of Marine Science, University of Southern Mississippi is not responsible for the misuse of data. Numerous researchers, faculty, post-docs, technicians, students and data managers have contributed to these datasets. Native_Data_Set_Environment: The raw and decoded data from USM3m01 buoy are stored in a mySAL database on a Linux Server and served via Internet. The station data is updated every half hour. Various data displays, including wind vectors for one week, air and sea surface temperatures for one week, near surface salinity for one week and relative humidity for one week are also available for download from the website. For further details on data availability and access, please contact CenGOOS program data manager. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: The data processing steps used by CenGOOS will be briefly outlined here. More details are available at the Department of Marine Science (DMS) at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The primary data telemetry system using a Qualcomm Globalstar modem. The buoy calls a data server at USM/DMS every three hours to upload the half-hourly data. If necessary, the buoy can be set to temporarily dial in every half-hour. Service ARGOS is used as a back- up telemetry system. The USM/DMS data server uses Perl scripts to: 1) load the data into a database that is accessible to the CenGOOS web server; 2) ftp's the data to the Geophysical and Environmental Research Group (GREG) at Texas A&M; and 3) ftp's the data to the NOAA/ National Data Buoy Center. The data from the CenGOOS webserver is available at http://www.cengoos.org. The most recent observations, plots of data from the past five days, and access to the data archives are available at that web site.
